Workshop on “Revisiting the Teaching Practice Evaluation Process”

The Faculty of Education conducted a workshop on “Revisiting the Teaching Practice Evaluation Process” on 18 August 2026, from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. at the Faculty of Education with the participation of all the academic members of the faculty.

The workshop was organised to revisit and strengthen the Teaching Practice evaluation process of the Faculty, with particular emphasis on ensuring consistency and clarity in the observation, evaluation, and assessment of student teachers.

The workshop was facilitated by Professor Chandradasa Wannigama, former Dean of the Faculty of Education and an expert in Assessment and Evaluation, and Mr. Siripala Galagamage, former Senior Lecturer of the Faculty of Education and an expert in Teaching Practice evaluation. Their expertise and extensive experience provided valuable perspectives on strengthening the existing Teaching Practice evaluation practices of the Faculty.

The sessions focused on the practical aspects of evaluating student teachers, including the observation of lessons, the use of the Teaching Practice Evaluation Form, the determination of Teaching Practice marks, lesson planning and the formulation of lesson objectives, the observation of Advanced Level lessons, and the provision of constructive feedback to student teachers.

The workshop provided an opportunity for academic staff involved in Teaching Practice to discuss existing evaluation practices, clarify areas of concern, and strengthen a shared understanding of the standards and procedures of the Faculty. The discussions also focused on enhancing the consistency, transparency, and effectiveness of the Teaching Practice evaluation process.
