Application process/guidelines/link to the webpage:

A person who wishes to be a candidate for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Faculty shall obtain the prescribed application form and the prospectus on payment of the prescribed fees.

Registration Procedures:

On acceptance of his/her candidature by the Faculty Board and the Senate an applicant shall register provisionally as a PhD student of the University within a month to follow the relevant Programme of study.

Admission requirements:

  1. Degree of Master of Philosophy (SLQF 11) in Education from the University of Colombo or any other University/Institution recognized by the UGC.

or

  1. Registered for the programme leading to the Degree of Master of Philosophy in the Faculty of Education and his/her request for transfer for this programme has been recommended by a panel of examiners and approved by the Senate.
  2. Master’s Degree of not less than two years’ duration with at least one year research component (SLQF 10) from the University of Colombo or any other University/Institution recognized by the UGC.

or

  1. Bachelor’s Degree Honours (SLQF 7) in a relevant field of study with  First or Second Class Upper Division (GPA of 3 or more) from the University of Colombo or any other University recognized by the UGC and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (SLQF 8) with Distinction or Merit Pass (GPA 3 or more)  from the University of Colombo or any other University recognized by the UGC and a minimum of three years of full time work experience in a relevant field of Education which is acceptable to the HDC.

or

  1. Any other equivalent qualification acceptable to the Faculty of Education.
  2. English proficiency for foreign nationals: IELTS 5.0
  3. Secure a minimum of 50% marks from an interview comprising of a panel as determined by the Faculty Board of the Faculty of Education and approved by the Senate of the University of Colombo.

Program fee:      Local students: Rs. 700,000 (tentative)

International students: USD 15,000 (tentative)
