In Memoriam: Retired Professor Karunanithy Markandu

The Faculty of Education, University of Colombo, mourns the passing of Retired Professor Karunanithy Markandu, who passed away on 21 December 2025.

Professor Karunanithy Markandu was a distinguished academic and a dedicated educator who made significant contributions to the Faculty of Education and to the broader field of education in Sri Lanka. He also served with distinction as the Director of the National Education Research and Evaluation Centre (NEREC) from 2009 to 2014, where his leadership contributed meaningfully to the advancement of educational research and evaluation.

He was widely respected for his scholarly excellence, integrity, and commitment to mentoring students and colleagues. His service and contributions have left a lasting legacy within the University of Colombo and beyond.

The Faculty of Education extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, former students, and colleagues.
