The Department of Educational Psychology, Faculty of Education, University of Colombo, proudly announces the launch of its official peer-reviewed journal — the Journal of Educational Psychology and Assessment (JEPA). We invite original research articles, conceptual papers, and review studies for publication in Volume 1, Issue 1.
About the Journal
Aligned with the Open Access Initiative, this journal provides instant and unrestricted access to its content on the principle that freely available scholarly research enhances the global exchange of knowledge.
Frequency: 2 issues per year – February and July
Language: English, Sinhala, and Tamil
Level of Publication: International
Scope and Themes
The Journal of Educational Psychology and Assessment (JEPA). welcomes high-quality, original manuscripts that contribute to the advancement of theory, research, and practice in Educational Psychology and related fields. The journal aims to promote scholarly dialogue and evidence-based understanding of human learning, development, and behavior in educational contexts.
JEPA provides a platform for researchers, educators, and practitioners to share insights, innovations, and research findings that address contemporary challenges in education. Both quantitative and qualitative studies, as well as mixed-methods, conceptual analyses, and review papers, are encouraged.
The themes include (but are not limited to):
- Educational Psychology – Cognitive, behavioral, and socio-emotional aspects of learning and teaching
- Special Education – Inclusive education, learning disabilities, and interventions for special needs students
- Educational Measurement and Assessment – Testing, evaluation, psychometrics, and educational statistics
- Guidance and Counselling – School guidance programs, student support systems, and developmental counselling
- School Counselling – Emotional, academic, and behavioral interventions within school settings
- Child Development and Child Care – Physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development across childhood
- Early Childhood Education – Learning environments, pedagogy, and family involvement in early learning
- Learning Theories and Teaching Strategies – Innovative approaches, instructional design, and cognitive strategies
- Motivation, Learning, and Achievement – Student engagement, intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, goal orientation
- Inclusive and Diverse Learning Environments – Equity, diversity, and culturally responsive pedagogies
- Mental Health and Well-being in Educational Settings – Psychological resilience, stress management, and emotional support systems
Submission Guidelines

Manuscript Format
- All manuscripts must adhere to the APA Publication Manual (7th Edition).
- Submissions must be in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format, typed in Times New Roman, 12-pt, with 1.5 line spacing and 1-inch margins on all sides.
- Word Limit: Full-length research articles: ≤7,000 words (including references, tables, and figures). Short communications, conceptual papers, or review articles: 3,000–5,000 words.
Manuscript Structure
- Title Page o Title (≤20 words, bold, centered) o Author(s) name(s) and affiliation(s) o Corresponding author’s email o Titles in Tamil or Sinhala must include an English translation o Note: The title page will be removed before peer review for anonymity.
- Abstract and Keywords o Abstract: 150–250 words summarizing objectives, methods, key findings, and conclusions.
- Keywords: 3–5 relevant terms.
- Abstracts in Tamil or Sinhala must be bilingual (Sinhala-English or Tamil-English).
- Main Text o Introduction: Background, problem statement, objectives, and significance o Literature Review: Critical review of relevant theoretical and empirical studies o Objectives / Research Questions / Hypotheses
- Methodology: Research design, participants, instruments, procedures, and analysis
- Results: Clear presentation of findings with tables and figures (APA format) o Discussion: Interpretation of results, implications, limitations, and comparison with prior studies
- Conclusion: Key findings, recommendations, and future research directions o Acknowledgements (if applicable)
- Tables and Figures o Number consecutively, provide clear titles, and follow APA 7th Edition formatting
- Refer to all tables and figures in the text
- Digital images should be high-resolution (JPEG, PNG, TIFF)
- References o Minimum of 10 references, preferably including at least one or two from Scopus or Web of Science
- Use APA 7th Edition consistently
- List references alphabetically by first author’s surname o All references cited in text must appear in the reference list, and vice versa
