The Department of Science and Technology Education (DSTE) bear part in its full capacity to the faculty of Education at all levels and sectors in the mission of strengthening the process of education by developing knowledge and training of graduates as professionals in education and in the initiation of undergraduate to the field of Education. The department contributes by providing subjects related to Curriculum, Curriculum implementation, Science, Mathematics and Technology Education and information Technology for undergraduates and postgraduates. DSTE plays major role in training of Science, Mathematics and ICT teachers for the diploma in education.

As the Department of Science & Technology Education, we are mindful of the Sciences, Technology & Mathematics Education, hence our aim is to promote capacity building of undergraduates and graduate teachers with respect to their professional competence at Degree , Diploma, Masters &higher levels with special concern for Science, Technology and Mathematics Education. In achieving this aim we are triggered by four objective as follows:

  • To provide a better learning environment for the future students.
  • To improve the nature of the courses in scope and sophistication.
  • To widen the academic services offered by the department.
  • To provide more opportunities for staff development both academic and non academic.

The academic staff of the DSTE, with this aim and objectives, attempts to motivate to experiment on effective Teaching Methodologies upon constructive feedback of the students and to explore innovative Curriculum concepts and processes.

Most course units offered by the DSTE are electives contributing the general courses conducted by the Faculty of Education. We have already developed our science education programme at Masters level and since 2010 we have further attempted to design a Curriculum Development component at the Masters level with the hope of expanding in the future. However, much work remains to be done in order to achieve our long term goals in this regard.
